*bits and pieces, weekend review edition*
~After promising a weekend update about Mortimer, the clinically obese hummingbird (COH), I have failed to deliver. I do have a good excuse, though. In tales such as that of Morty, a picture truly is worth a thousand words. Photographing a COH is a bit tricky. Because he is far heavier than the good Lord ever intended a hummingbird to be, the feeder sways precariously from side to side when he is perched upon it. This makes focusing difficult. Also, to truly appreciate Morty’s affliction, it would be best to view him next to a hummingbird of normal proportions. When such a bird gets anywhere near the feeder, Morty has a tendency to scare them the hell away. Every time he takes flight to do so, I fear that we won’t see him above ground level again — that all his wings will do is slow down his heavy body’s decent to the ground. Short of filling the feeder with Diet Coke (I kid!) I’m really not sure what I can do for Morty.
~This was a really nice weekend at our house. I think between me not being home last weekend and the whole family having a sort of craptacular week, it was bound to be. David made one of my favorite meals last night — barbecued chicken, grilled asparagus, and roasted potatoes with onions. It may have been a fluke, but Pea went to bed with no tears last night. And slept for eleven hours. We didn’t do anything special or out of the ordinary this weekend, but it was nice to just hang out and be a family.
~On Saturday I had a very successful weigh-in. I also returned to the gym after nearly two weeks off. (One for sick, one for too busy.) No matter how much progress you make in about 6 weeks of gym going, skipping a week or two is kind of like starting over again.
~Award shows are one of my big TV guilty pleasures, and The Emmys are probably my favorite. I’m not a huge Conan O’Brien fan, but I thought he did a really good job hosting. The opening skit and the song-and-dance number could have been terrible but they both made me laugh. Oh, and the Bob Newhart thing! I was thrilled to see Sexy Badass win best actor and his show win for best drama.
~In TV-shows-that-won’t-ever-win-an-award news, I was very pleased with Design Star last night. My two favorites are the two finalists — I don’t think that’s ever happened to me before.
~I found Reckon Wordwide courtesy of Cool Mom Picks, and I’m just loving it. How fun would a tiny tee with an image of Dr. Seuss himself and a few books be for an offbeat shower or birthday gift? I’d like to order myself a shirt, but I’m having trouble narrowing it down.
~Naptime, I think.

I know, man, I KNOW!
(trying to get back to going back to the gym after my back injury, ugh)
Hey, thanks so much for the mention!
But I have to say – I stumbled getting onto the Reckon site like a billion times doing the same thing you did: It’s reckon WORD wide. not worldwide. Because he’s a poet I suppose. I probably should make that clear on the post come to think of it.
Oh and the Emmy’s? Funniest ever. I agree the opening was awesome.
Ack! Thanks for the correction, Liz. It’s funny that I could look at it so many times and never read it right.
