*pio pio pio*
I’ve always been somewhat fascinated by the words that different cultures use to describe animal sounds. Cats don’t purr in Japan, they say "nyaa, nyaa." Russian horses "i-go-go" instead of neighing. And when Spanish-speaking chicks want to get their mama’s attention, they say "pio pio pio."
Los Pollitos Dicen is a local business run by a new friend of mine. She makes super cute t-shirts and more featuring sweet and simple drawings of baby chicks illustrating Spanish words and sayings — "pio pio pio" is just the beginning.. They’re always available on the Los Pollitos Dicen website, but this week a few designs are also available at Target.com. (I shouldn’t have waited so long to write this — the items will be there through tomorrow, I think.)
I can’t really think of anything bigger for a small business than this kind of exposure. If you need a gift for a new baby or a shower, you can’t go wrong with the Pio Pio Pio bodysuit that Target has right now. Buying one will give a boost to a small local business that is sure to go far. (And don’t forget to check out the rest of the line at lospollitosdicen.biz.)
(Ugh, this almost sounds like a press release. But it isn’t, and no one is paying me — I’m just helping a friend get the word out.)
